The problem, stated plainly
South Africa buries the overwhelming majority of its plastic. Landfill airspace is running out around every metro. Material that will outlast us by centuries is put in the ground, unsorted, unused, and paid for twice.
Millions live in structures of corrugated sheeting and timber offcuts. Shack fires spread in minutes. Winter rain floods floors. Summer heat turns metal walls into ovens. There is no insulation, no fire break, no dignity in it.
Informal settlement fires destroy thousands of homes every year. Density and flammable materials make containment almost impossible.
Uninsulated single skin walls hold no heat. Cold, damp interiors drive respiratory illness through winter.
The exact polymers that make a Dignity Block strong and insulating are the ones being buried metres away.
The network
Eleven press installations cover the metros that generate the bulk of the country's municipal waste, with a second tier of regional sites feeding the same network. Blocks are produced where the waste already arrives, then hauled short distances to build sites.

This is not an imported turnkey system dropped onto African ground. The press, the shredding line and the material handling are being designed and built in South Africa, for South African waste, dust, power supply and climate. That matters: spares are local, repairs are same day, and every operator can be trained by the people who built the machine.
The programme is led by an engineer with twenty five years across robotics, electronics, hydraulics and mechatronics, the exact disciplines a heavy duty press line is made of. Hydraulics for the compression stage, thermal and electronic control for the fusion cycle, automation and safety interlocks for the line. The design work is already inside the room.

Why now
It is the twenty first century. The technology exists, the material exists, the land exists and the people exist. There is no excuse left for allowing our brothers and sisters to live in squalor.
The same people who do the hardest work for the least money deserve to be honoured with a home that is safe, warm and theirs. This proposal exists to prove it can be done, with the right minds, the right town planning and the support of our countrymen.
